Charlie Wade's Job Hunting and Employment FAQs

"I'm really, really desperate for this job I'm interviewing for..."

Don't come off as desperate. Desperation isn't attractive in any situation, it surely won't get you the job.

Employers want people who are cool customers, who handle stress and stressful situations well. They don't want people who appear to fall to pieces under the gun or who cannot control their emotions. Right or wrong, someone who is desperate will come off negatively to people.

Also, it just makes for an uncomfortable situation for everyone. I mean, think about it: what exactly is an interviewer supposed to say to someone who makes it clear that he/she is desperate for the job? It very well might not be completely up to that interviewer to hire or not anyway.

Your situation might very well be truly desperate. But that just isn't relevant to a potential employer. Keep it to yourself and just stick to what will help you get the job.
